FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

My Mom Says She's Fine, But I'm Worried. What Should I Do?

Many families contact me at this stage. Often, adult children notice changes before their parent does. Together, we'll evaluate the situation, discuss concerns, and create a plan that helps you move forward with confidence—whether that means staying at home, bringing in support, or exploring other options.

How Do I Know If My Parent Can Still Live Safely at Home?

Signs may include falls, medication mistakes, memory concerns, difficulty managing household tasks, poor nutrition, or increased isolation. During our consultation, we'll discuss your loved one's situation and determine what level of support may be helpful.

What Are the Signs That It's Time to Consider Assisted Living or Memory Care?

Every situation is different. Common signs include increasing safety concerns, frequent hospitalizations, caregiver burnout, wandering, memory loss, or difficulty managing daily activities. I'll help you understand your options and determine whether additional support at home or a senior living community may be the best fit.

What Is the Difference Between Home Care, Assisted Living, and Memory Care?

Home care provides support while a senior remains in their own home. Assisted living offers housing, meals, and daily assistance in a community setting. Memory care provides specialized support for individuals living with Alzheimer's disease or other forms of dementia. I'll help you understand the differences and determine which option best fits your family's needs.

My Parent Is Being Discharged From the Hospital. What Should I Do Next?

Hospital discharges can feel overwhelming, especially when decisions need to be made quickly. I'll help you understand your options, coordinate next steps, and make informed decisions during a stressful and time-sensitive situation.

My Parent Refuses Help. What Can I Do?

This is one of the most common challenges families face. Together, we'll discuss practical approaches, communication strategies, and available resources that can help you move forward while respecting your loved one's independence and dignity.

How Do I Start Planning Before There's a Crisis?

The best time to create a plan is before an emergency occurs. Planning ahead allows families to understand available resources, discuss preferences, and make thoughtful decisions before stress and urgency take over.

Do All Families Need Senior Living?

No. Not every family needs senior living.

Many families benefit from planning, education, home care resources, safety modifications, or additional support at home. My role is to help you understand all of your options and choose the path that is right for your family.

Do You Only Help With Assisted Living Placement?

No. I help families navigate a variety of situations, including planning ahead, hospital discharges, memory care decisions, downsizing, home care resources, and understanding available senior care options.

What Happens During a Complimentary Consultation?

We'll discuss your current situation, your concerns, and your goals. I'll answer your questions, explain available options, and help you determine the next best steps for your family.

Do You Work With Families Who Live Out of the Area?

Yes. Many adult children live in different cities or states than their parents. I can help coordinate information, provide guidance, and serve as a local resource when needed.

What Areas Do You Serve?

I primarily serve families throughout San Luis Obispo County and the Central Coast. Depending on the situation, virtual consultations may also be available.
