When Is the Right Time to Start Looking at Senior Living?
I’ve been having a lot of conversations lately with families who say something very similar:
“We wish we had started looking earlier.”
Often, things don’t feel urgent at first.
Mom is still at home. She’s safe. She’s watching TV most of the day.
Nothing is technically wrong.
But what many families don’t realize is this:
If you wait until there’s a fall, a hospital stay, or sudden decline, your choices can shrink very quickly.
The places families want — the smaller, more personal homes, the ones with availability, continuity of care, and the right feel — often require time, planning, and flexibility.
When decisions are made in a calm season, families usually have:
• More options
• More say
• Less stress
• Better outcomes for their loved one
Waiting until there’s a crisis often means choosing what’s available, not what’s ideal.
I’m not sharing this to create urgency or fear — just awareness.
Sometimes the best time to look is before you need to move, so you’re not forced into decisions later.
If this resonates, I’m always happy to be a quiet resource.
You don’t have to figure this out on your own.
I’ve walked this road many times before…
and I’ll walk it with you.
